Happy Birthday, Bones!
Every building has a star who never takes a shift off — and at the Meridian Centre, that star has fur. The Niagara IceDogs hosted the Peterborough Petes on Sunday afternoon, November 1, and the day belonged to Bones, the hardest-working dog in hockey, as the building celebrated Bones' Birthday Bash.
Bones worked the whole building, the way he always does — high-fives and selfies all over the concourse, a red-carpet walk at centre ice, and a building full of kids singing Happy Birthday. Fellow mascots from around Niagara dropped in for the party, and Bones even made off with one of the 50/50 signs from the Crime Stoppers table — briefly. (He gave it back. Good boy.)
That's what a mascot really is: the first face a kid falls for at the rink — and years later, that kid is bringing their own kid to meet him. The players change. The standings change. The dog shows up. Players get traded — Bones is forever.
In the newest episode of The Infamous Take, Infamous Jay Moore — on the concourse selling 50/50 tickets for Crime Stoppers of Niagara — raises a birthday salute to the dog of the day.
